Today, Sept. 29th, 2020, Alexander Hellene announced on Twitter that The Second Sojourn, book two in The Swordbringer series, was complete barring the glossary. He welcomes anyone interested in beta reading in exchange for an honest review to contact him via direct message.

On his website, Hellene has a copy for this story:

We reviewed the first book in this series The Last Ancestor here on Periapsis Press. We are looking forward to this next installment in this sword and planet series!

Gideon Ira in Castle Bloodghast Crowdfund

The third novel in Adam Lane Smith's heavy metal Christian series Gideon Ira begins its Kickstarter Campaign.

On July 16th, Adam Lane Smith announced his Kickstarter for Gideon Ira in Castle Bloodghast. This book will be the third in the Gideon Ira series and the fourth in the overarching Deus Vult Wastelanders series.

It broke through the initial funding goal within 5 hours, and Smith has already released the first stretch goal, with more fun to come if that is also met.

Adam announced at the same time that Ivan Tao would be returning as the cover artist, and Brian Niemeier as the editor for the series.

On the campaign page, Smith says,

“Crusaders in power armor invade an ancient evil castle. This heavy metal Christian gothic horror novel will melt your face right off.”

This campaign ends August 14th.

Coming to Power Book Release

T. J. Marquis releases a new "science-fantasy Multiverse adventure"

Author T. J. Marquis released the first novel in a new series The Arc Legacy on May 30th. He describes Coming to Power as an “American epic isekai.”

A unique perk of the stories included in this “Multiverse” is the inclusion of a map and basic world statistics for non-commercial gaming, such as roleplaying.

We have not yet read Coming to Power, but you can read our positive, long-form review of Marquis’s debut novel How Black the Sky here!

Combat Frame XSeed: S Crowdfund

The first novel in Brian Niemeier's new Combat Frame XSeed series enters the last day of its Indiegogo Campaign.

Combat Frame XSeed: S smashed through the initial campaign goal on the same day it was launched, May 26th. Now contributors have met six stretch goals, unlocking a variety of fun, new perks from trading cards to additional short stories.

All three Combat Frame XSeed novels in Niemeier’s original series were also crowdfunded. On the campaign page, Niemeier says,

“Now we kick the blazing mech action into high gear with book 1 in an all new military sci fi series!”

This campaign ends today, June 25th.

Short Story Book Club Launched

Alexandru Constantin leads new effort to foster community through book discussion

The Sorceress by John William Waterhouse

On May 12th, Alexandru Constantin announced the Short Story Book Club on his blog The Dacian. In the initial post, he explained that it was one manifestation of his desire to “foster an environment rich in community and discussion.”

Constantin chose Schuyler Hernstrom’s “Mortu and Kyrus in the White City” as the first story for review. 

Five other bloggers participated in this leadoff round: David Roome of Periapsis Press, The Pulp Archivist, Cameron Wood, Daniel J. Davis, and Alexander Hellene.

We are looking forward to the announcement of the next short story for review and hope to see more discourse inspired by this club!
